DORORO (2007)
The Japanese feature film Dororo shot entirely on location in our districts of Ashburton and Selwyn in 2006, including scenes at the Flock Hill site, also known as the battleground for Andrew Adamson's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe.
The film is produced by Tahashi Hirano (Kamikaze Girls) and directed by Akihiko Shiota (Yomigaeri) from a screenplay by Shiota and Nakamura Masaru. It is based on the comic book created by Osamu Tezuka which appeared serially in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1967-68.
In addition to its comic book serialization, Dororo was also adapted into a 26 episode television series and as a Playstation 2 game and an animated feature film.
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE (2005)
The filming locations of Canterbury are spectacularly captured in the new movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe from Disney and Walden Media www.narnia.com
In a Close Up TV One interview Director Andrew Adamson (SHREK) said -
It was interesting for me to try and find places that "Lord of The Rings" hadn't shot at. I can t believe they didn't shoot at Flock Hill, because that was a stunning piece of scenery. - Andrew Adamson, Director, Close Up, TVNZ 2005

Flock Hill Station was the setting for the climactic final battle between Aslan's forces and the powerful army of the White Witch, led by the fierce minotaur, General Otmin. The battle is one of the most spectacular Hollywood has seen yet, with the two sides riding into battle against the stunning snow capped backdrop of the Southern Alps.
"Like "The Lord of the Rings", the awesome scenery is distinctly New Zealand. Most remarkable was the battle scene filmed at Flock Hill Station which shows off New Zealand's uninhabited beauty. . .". Claire Ongley, Reuters MSN
PERFECT STRANGERS (2003)
"Making 'Perfect Strangers' on the West Coast was the best filmmaking experience of my life. The local community were welcoming and very supportive offering us that special practical ingenuity that Coasters have, along with warmth and humour. Everyday that special low winter light illuminated the landscapes giving us splendid choices and the weather only ever behaved as scripted!" - Gaylene Preston Director/Producer/Writer
The film stars Sam Neill and Rachael Blake "but perhaps the most memorable creative partner is the New Zealand setting, captured tellingly by cinematographer Alun Bollinger. Has ever such an intense inner struggle been played against such wide and towering locations?" - Screen Daily review, Frank Hatherley, 14 Aug 03. www.perfectstrangersthemovie.com
