Filming West Coast New Zealand

The West Coast scenery has been lauded as the fourth character in Gaylene Preston's Perfect Strangers starring Sam Neill. The BBC series Lost World was filmed on the Coast standing in for South America. Stunning sub tropical rain forests, dramatic rocky coastlines and sweeping sandy estuaries, rivers and waterfalls tumble unhindered through craggy gorges.

The lands have lushness and an unspoiled quality that lends itself so well to dramatic adventures plus towns like Reefton have preserved their historic colonial architecture providing a genuine frontier town setting. Shantytown is another great example of a historic western setting.
